My life has been defined by hard work, compassion, and a commitment to serving my community. Raised by an Illinois correctional officer and teacher, I learned from an early age the value of public service and advocating for others - core values that have guided my progressive worldview.

After excelling academically and leading numerous school organizations, I graduated from the University of Illinois, where I spearheaded environmental initiatives and launched a campus-wide recycling program. My early career promoting sustainability reflected my dedication to bold, forward-thinking policies that secure a healthy future for all.

Leslie Nuss:
A Voice for Indiana's Values

My decade in New York was marked by creative pursuits but also profound challenges. In 1999, I survived a violent attack where I was slashed across the face and head during a gang initiation. Although requiring 25 staples and 26 stitches to treat my injuries, my response was one of empathy rather than vengeance. I attended court proceedings for my 16-year-old attacker and advocated for her to get a second chance, urging the young woman to turn her life around - a testament to my commitment to restorative justice.

When I moved to Valparaiso in 2005 with my husband Fred Bamesberger to start a family and eventually have two children, I embraced my role as a proud Hoosier advocate. I became a fierce voice for the disabilities community, helping start a playgroup called Club Wonder for children with special needs and their siblings. I also served on the design committee for the redesign of ValPLAYso's inclusive playground in 2013 and the Valparaiso Mayor's Council for Disability.

Now, I am running for State Senate to be a tenacious, progressive voice standing up for Indiana's values.

With Commitment and Compassion,
